Here’s a CGI video of how they are planning to deal with the MV Golden Ray which capsized leaving Brunswick, Georgia:

The Versabar VB-10000 is a cool (and expensive dayrate!) vessel. Usually used for topside installs and decoms. She’s parked at Sabine Pass. The Claw attachment is cool as hell.

Sounds like there was some legal tussle over insurance and who was salvaging it. But yeah, it does seem a long time to just leave it. Even if they’ve pumped out the fuel and such I’m sure it’s leaking all sort of fun stuff from the cars. I would have thought it would be righted and refloated and the towed off for scrapping, but clearly more knowledgeable people than me feel like cutting it into barge sized chunks for disposal will be some combination of cheaper, easier, and/or less risky.

Rich got killed in an accident a few years back. Snowboarding maybe?
Titan merged with Svitzer(?) Salvage and formed Ardent a few years ago. We’ve done some work with them, including some UXO stuff. Good group of folks.
